Wicked Irish

Reactions:

Nik and I just picked up our packets for the Tour de Patrick, a three-race series of 5Ks around St. Patrick's Day, all in our area. They offered an orange, green, and white long-sleeve tech T for each of the races -- but if you signed up for all three you'd get a fourth tech shirt free. So yeah, we did. Because WE LOVE SWAG. Also to celebrate Nik's Irish heritage. No joke: Mrs. Wong is part Irish.

First up is the Irish 5K in Pawtucket, March 5. We've been there a million times -- Nik used to work in Pawtucket, too -- but we've never run there.  So that should be interesting since we're both sick of running around our neighborhood.

Next up on March 13 is the Guinness Celtic 5K in Worcester, another place we've never run before. And, like the Pawtucket race, there's going to be a St. Patrick's Day parade right afterward. Begorrah!

The final race in the Tour de Patrick is the St. Pat's 5K in Providence on March 19. The route is pretty familiar, but this should be a huge race. Providence has been putting on some massive 5K races lately, with thousands of people elbow-to-elbow, fantastic tech shirts, and great support. Oh, and there's a parade after this one too. What is it with St. Patrick's Day and parades anyway?

Run Photo of the Day 2.20.11: Humongous block of ice

Reactions:

The weather is sunnier lately, and there's been some thaw, but overall it's still freezing cold. Proof: We ran by a monstrously sized chunk of ice sitting at the edge of someone's driveway. It's the size of a large bucket.

Run Photo of the Day 2.17.11: Water and ice

Reactions:

Stanley spent some time sniffing a puddle today. It's been a long time since he's seen liquid water outside. He probably has only a vague idea what it is.

Much of the water outside still looks like this.

Run Photo of the Day 2.9.11 : 6 Feet Running in the Poi

Reactions:

Nik & I and met John from the Poi for a short easy run through beautiful Mattapoisett.

The weather was chilly -- about 20 degrees -- but it was actually pretty ideal running weather around gorgeous Mattapoisett scenery. Click that panorama to enlarge it to see what I'm talking about.

We ran down past the Mattapoisett River (of course) and to the waterfront, near the (naturally) Mattapoisett Harbor. I'm in a secret contest with myself to see how many times I can get the word "Mattapoisett" into this post. The count is 5 so far.

We ended up running through snowy Cushing Cemetery, where many Mattapoisett (6) whaling heroes are buried.
