Nik and Dan find a typical regular-sized geocache in Newport, R.I. Geocaching is the most funnest thing ever.

We use the Garmin Forerunner 405 to find geocaches. It's so much fun that it's worth the $300 for that alone. Not really. But it's still fun.

Episode 39

There's foreshadowing, suspense, and dramatic irony aplenty with 4 Feet Running with Nik and Dan! This week:

- They predict it won't rain -- guess what happens?

- Nik has mysterious trouble with her Garmin -- guess what happens?

- They recover from their lousy races with a nice, relaxing walk, where everyone's a winner

- Their dog Stanley has interesting (and expensive) food preferences

- Nik shares her first look at the Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS sports watch

- Dan wraps up his 10 in 10 in 10 Challenge (10 weeks, 10 pounds, 10K) and looks to the future with sunny optimism

Dan shows off his new Nike Dri-Fit hat, which is his new running headgear. He also shows off an impressive thicket of body hair.

Nik gets ready for the race, just before the rains come pouring down.

Three guys in tricorne hats and breeches and with muskets get ready to fire off the cannon that starts the Fairhaven Father's Day Road Race. Only guys with tricorne hats and breeches are licensed to discharge cannons.

This is what's left of Nik's Garmin Forerunner 205 after Stanley the dog used it to floss his incisors.

We took Myrna and Stanley (not pictured) with us to Vermont. Isn't that cozy -- boy girl, boy girl.

Burlington is on Lake Champlain, which looks real pretty.

See?

The dogs liked the waterfront too.

Lake Champlain is a lot more moister than it looks when seen up close.

About 8,000 people ran the race, marathoners and relay racers (Nik didn't have updated figures when we recorded the podcast).

The official race photos left a lot to be desired. For example, can you spot where Nik is in this photo?

Here's a great one of her keeping her back straight and using yoga breathing.

Can you spot where Nik is in this photo as she crosses the finish line? (Hint: She's not wearing a green shirt!)

There was a good crowd for the Vermont City Marathon, turning Burlington from a one-horse town to a two-horse town.

Dan kept Stanley & Myrna away from the crowd just in case these vicious beasts tried to eat a stray child or two.

Nik had a great run, though it wasn't a PR, and got a medal that weighs a wicked lot.

But she kept thinking about ice cream the whole time.

So they went to Waterbury, Vt., where the ice cream comes from.

And they put in their orders.

And ordered waffle cones.

They hiked to the top of Mount Philo, which has amazing views of the Lake Champlain valley.

The dogs were pretty good with the hiking.

But they preferred to nap. So we did.

- Dan has sort of a lousy running week thanks to the rain

- They discuss the early days of their courtship, which had a Sharks & Jets type feel, politically, until it became Sharks & Sharks

- They talk about their future marathon travel plans, which may include Texas

- Nik & Dan meet a guy still bitter about World War II

- They get some coffee and kale soup and read some feedback from very nice people
