Episode 34

It's a spring fling in Plymouth with 4 Feet Running! This week:

- Nik, Dan, and the dogs rock on for 3 miles in downtown Plymouth

- Stanley the pointer goes for several swims in Town River while running through Brewster Park

- Nik's in a running funk, but is really liking this Twitter business

- Dan's 10K training plan is going according to plan, but ice cream may sabotage his 10 in 10 Challenge

- They talk about Nik's ancestor who came over on the Mayflower and may or may not have slipped on a banana peel

- Speaking of which, they talk about meeting an older lady clown with a filthy mouth (it's hard to explain ... just listen to it)

- There are no pictures of Plymouth Rock because it's frankly not that impressive

- They read emails and reviews from very nice people

- Special thanks to Gordon from Tiree and Adam "Another Runner" Tinkoff for their song "I Do"

Enjoy!

Plymouth has quaintness practically coming out of its ears.

Look closely and you'll even see a friendly cop sitting on a park bench in the town square. See? Quaint as hell.

Nik, Stanley, and Myrna warm up in Brewster Park in downtown Plymouth, while Stanley eyes the Town River.

And there he goes.

This is Mayflower, a third-scale replica of the original, even though people today are seven-fourths scale what they were in 1620.

Dan and the dogs pose by the Mayflower.

- Nik's running routine isn't working so great for her, plus oil paint poisoning sucks

- Nik wins the Whitest Sneakers Award for her brand-new Brooks, purchased at the Crazy Man Running Store

- Dan outruns the military for most of the race

- Other characters glimpsed in this episode: Nik's Chauvinist Teacher, Dan's ex-coworker Stacey, and an accountant named Bubbles

- They discuss Dan's new 10 in 10 Challenge and read some reviews by very nice people

A panorama of the inside of the Municipal Veterans Memorial, where Nik and Dan picked up their race numbers (and later, their swag).

Some kind stranger took a picture of both of us at the start of the race. Very few pictures exist with both of us in the shot, leading many people to believe that we're actually the same person.

Nik gives Dan the hairy eyeball for some reason.

Members of the ROTC line up in formation. They followed Dan at a steady pace for much of the race, trying desperately to catch up to his pace. Finally, Dan quit toying with them and let them pass.

Winner of the Whitest Sneakers Award 2008 goes to Nik for her new Brooks Dyad 4s. Good job!

The T-shirts came in XL only. More free T-shirts for Dan! Or, Nik can use hers as a miniskirt/top combo.

33 is percolating

Hello, 4 Feet Friends! Nik and Dan just ran the Officer Thomas Giunta Memorial 5K in downtown Fall River, and are almost ready to share the experience with you. But with a Sunday race, they just need some more time to edit the show. We promise it'll be soon.

In the meantime, check out more information about the race here! And both Nik and Dan's race results are available on Cool Runnings (or, just check the blog widgets along the side if clicking is too much of a chore).

Back in a bit!

- Nik uses her powers of deduction, honed by years of watching "Murder She Wrote," to solve the mystery of her recent queasiness

- Dan, aka Future Boy, gets the DeLorean up to 88 to end up back in time on the west coast

- He gets a panic attack

- Dan runs twice through the streets of Berkeley, the second time bringing along a special guest star

- Dan reports live from downtown San Francisco with the most bizarre, uninformed travel show ever

- Gramma doesn't think very much of Dan, but he behaves himself very well and comes home safe

Enjoy!

Dan peeks out the window of his plane before it leaves Boston.

For some reason, he keeps getting stopped in airports. Does this guy look suspicious to you?

An aerial view of Fall River, the horizontal piece between the two bodies of water. You can almost see Nik and Dan's house. It's a couple down from the red one.

Dan flew over the Rocky Mountains during the 6-hour plane ride to California.

Among the many wonders of the West Coast Dan was witness to: this street in Berkeley.

And his hotel room.

The lobby was much nicer, though.

The view from his hotel room includes the Golden Gate Bridge (pinkish smudge way, way in the background). There were better days than this to take pictures of it, but he was very busy.

The Sather Gate on the UC Berkeley campus is right near where Dan stayed, on the way to the conference.

Dan is a steady hand at night shots of the Sather Bell Tower. Who says he can't hold his liquor?

A stitched-together panorama of the courtyard of UC Berkeley's North Gate Hall, on Hearst and Euclid avenues. If you click it and look closely, you can see two copies of the same Berkeley professor -- the original and his evil twin, Raoul.

Yes, he really owns this shirt.

And here's a quick map of where I ran (both alone and with Dennis...I think. It was dark):
